Background: Determining the bone age based on Greulich-Pyle (GP) method has been frequently used for assessment of skeletal maturity and growth rate in children. The aim of this study is that whether the GP method could be reliable to determine the skeletal age in children aged 2-18 years old in Tehran City.
Material and methods: For each person, plain radiography of the left hand and wrist was taken. The subjects were asked their ethnicity and the history of used drugs. Also, the body mass index of all subjects was recorded in a checklist. Mean chronological ages and mean bone ages were compared for each age group according to GP method.
Results: Mean ± SD bone ages were delayed 0.33 ± 0.88, 0.20 ± 0.92, 0.50 ± 1.28 and 0.62 ± 1.17 years than the mean chronological ages in the 2.99-5.99, 6-9.99, 10-13.99 and 14-18 age group, respectively. In BMI levels
